There is a stereotype out there that good players have to play forged cuffs while beginners or high handicappers should play cast irons
It is not true New level golfAndy Hennis and Kevin Masterson want you to know theirs The new 702 series of forged handcuffs It might just be a good opportunity for players in a bind to improve their game right now.
The pair appeared on this week’s episode of Fully Equipped Golf and explained to hosts Kris McCormack and Wadeh Maroun that game improvement handcuffs can hurt players more than they help.
“Talking to somebody out there who might not have as much control over their golf ball, maybe playing something more game-improving (Iron) right now, one of the things we talk about a lot is at some point those cuffs to improve the game, those two -Piece (sorry) that are creating inconsistencies, maybe not helping a player,” said Masterson, New Level’s managing director. “It’s like, sure, you’re hitting it farther than you would hit our 7-iron, but then you hit it 10 feet farther than you thought you were going to go, and all of a sudden, you’re trying to make pars.”
Masterson continued that one-piece forgivenesses like their new 702 series cuffs bring with them the consistency a golfer needs.
New-level grips also have weaker lofts than modern game-improvement grips, which helps players get the ball in the air.

“We see a lot of guys come in and they’re going to be in a multi-material type of a super-distance game-improvement cuff,” Masterson said. “They’ll come in and they’re starting it really low, they’re revving it really low and they’re hitting their 28-iron at 2,500 rpms and it’s going forever but it’s never going to stop. Then you you can get them called in and it’s a 7 iron for us it’s 33 or 34 degrees and then they start it higher and it’s holding farther and it’s going and then it stops.”
The new tier thought of both elite hitters and less experienced players when they drafted 702 handcuffs.
“I think that’s really where the CB and the plus just nailed it, giving you a little more surface area on that plus to hit it,” Masterson said. “But then again, you don’t have to be an elite striker to play a club like this.”
