Fifty-year-old Steve Allan recently became the winner in PGA Tour Champions For the first time, claiming the title at Galleri Classic in March. The victory was only the third of Allan’s career, and his first victory in 23 years, since his victory in Holden Australian Open 2002.
In this week’s episode of Subpar, Allan described the long way and the winding -the dick that his professional career of golf has taken COLT COLT KNOST AND DREW POLTZ. Learning for the rest of us? Never give up.
“I lost my card at PGA Tour at the end of ’05,” Allan said. “I got it again for, ’07, ’08, ’09, and then lost it in ’09, and I completely lost it, as, as, didn’t even finish 200 top 200, so no raft. So this is a control of reality. But I still felt like, at the end of ’09, were only 12 months from the end of ’08 when I probably had my best run on the tournament.
“I would have a terrible start in ’08, and at the end of 2008 I finished. I think it was third in Tourning Stone, where Dustin Johnson won his first tour. I finished seventh here in Great Where I was ready pushing for the superiority and renewing the end. I think it was a 4th even in Mississippi, and so is like, I’m not so far from this, so I feel like it is still there. “
After losing his PGA Tour card, Allan had an opportunity to play in the newly formed Tour.
“Many of the best Australians were not playing Oneasia because they were all in PGA Tour, European Tour, Japanese tournament, so I managed to get some invitations, and this kind kept me going for a couple of years,” Allan said.
Allan returned to his return to the Korn Ferry tournament and approached to regain PGA Tour status in 2015, but closely lost.
“I finally lost my Korn ferry card, and then I am playing in ’18, not very well, and then ’19 I played really well during the year, I did it through three PGA Tour on Monday.
“So I played well enough not to give up, and up to this point, I’m deep in my 40s, I’m like, the champions tour is on the horizon,” he continued. “Unfortunately that year i got really sick at q-school so i is couldn’t play, and then we had the Covid year, so next thing it is a few more years down the track, and you know, at that stream, i really kenew i wand to the champions tour a crack a crack Still Love the Game, I Still Like Competing. one of the most difficult tours to rideSo there was no guarantee, but I would give it a blow. “
Allan gave her more than one blow, ending T3 in the PGA Tour 2024 Champions Tournament to gain full exception in the PGA Tour champions last year. At the end of the year, he ended up only shy of the 36 best cutting, and had conditional status for 2025.
In March, he took a place in the Galleri Classic field when Steve Stricker withdrew. Then, he won the tournament with rounds 69-65-67. Now he has full status for both this year and for the next time.
