Athletics All-Star outfielder Brent Rooker has the golf bug.
The 31-year-old plays whenever he can. He works it out on off days on the road and finds time during spring training whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Rooker is no different from the rest of the golf-obsessed crowd. He has his favorite course and the course that tops his “must play” list.
For Rooker, who was a guest on the last episode of subparagraphhis favorite is outside Chattanooga, on the other side of the Tennessee-Georgia border.
“My favorite course I’ve ever played is Lookout Mountain Country Club in Chattanooga,” Rooker told co-hosts Drew Stoltz and Colt Knost. “I love that course. I played it four or five times. It’s my favorite.”
Lookout Mountain Club is a 6,613-yard course that was designed by Seth Raynor & Charles Banks in 1927 and touched by Tyler Rae in 2023. GOLF ranked it as the no. 5 in Georgia for the year 2024-2025.
As for Rooker’s desired major course to set it up, it’s not Augusta National, The Old Course or Pine Valley, although those are certainly on his list. But it is one Top 100 courses — one that PGA Tour star Cameron Young is extremely familiar with.
“I think that what I want to play, I want to play Sleepy Hollow in New York, “said Rooker. “That’s what I see the pictures, and that par. 3 (No. 16) fingerprint specific, I want to play that hole really bad.”
Young honed his game at Sleepy Hollow, where his father, David, is the course’s longtime pro. Naturally, Knost suggested Rooker try to get in touch with Young to see if he could help check Sleepy Hollow off his golf bucket list.
