Why getting new clubs doesn’t end right


So you alone I adjusted for new golf clubsbut the process does not end there.

Yes, then you will order those golf clubs, but there is more to it than that.

Johnny Wunder just experienced this first hand after becoming proficient Vokey’s new SM11 points by tour representative Aaron Dill.

Wunder returned to the Titleist Performance Institute after his initial fit with Dill to get his new wedges and tweak them to get the right clearance.

On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, Wunder and Morrow talked about how the fitting experience doesn’t really end with fitting, and how you need to be able to go back to the fitter to make sure everything is dialed in like Wunder did.

Titleist Vokey Design’s new SM11 wedges feature a new precision CG position on every wedge in a loft, meaning every wedge will now perform the same way with the same shot.

“I’d say probably 65, 70 percent sure you wouldn’t have to change anything about the placement of those wedges, like whether it was adjusting the lofts and the lies or whatever,” Morrow said. “And then you come out of that session blank and you’re like, man, that was great. You’re like, I had a great time. I felt like I just unlocked every ounce of confidence that I have from that set of wedges. And I think that might actually be like a bigger point to raise as well — something we haven’t talked about — is fit for a club.”

As Morrow pointed out, working with your winner after you actually have the clubs is key – you need to make sure everything is as it’s supposed to be.

“When you meet a good club fitter, first, you should try to find a club fitter that you trust will continue to visit,” added Morrow. “Whether your frequency is once a year, every two years, once every six months, whatever it is, finding a winner that you trust with your game is huge because you can do things like revisit them and say, ‘Hey, we adjusted for these, but now can you share them for me so I still know you’re okay with what I’m playing?’

Not only will this ensure that what you specified best is what you received, but getting that extra bit of validation will only inspire confidence. All good assemblers should be happy to do so because it builds trust between you, the customer and them which can lead to a better relationship down the road.
