Frenkie de Jong refuses to undergo ankle surgery injury because the doctors in Barcelona could not confirm that it solved his problem, said former presidential candidate Victor Font.
De Jong has been sidelined since April with an ankle injury showing more and more concern behind the scenes of the Camp Nou. Reports claim that Barcelona officials have warned the Dutchman that he must undergo surgery soon, but De Jong remains without a concrete return date.
In a recent media appearance, Font claimed to have spoken directly with De Jong, who explained why he has not agreed Barcelonathe push for surgery.
“I met him by chance and he told me that he prefers not to have surgery, that although the club has proposed it, they do not give him guarantees of success,” said Font, who fell short of Joan Laporta in the presidency 2021 elections.
“It’s a complicated position and you have to be understanding with the player, you have to support him. The squad is super short and ideally all the injured players are back as soon as possible.”
Font has rarely missed an opportunity to criticize Laporta’s presidency and attacked the club’s management of De Jong, Vitor Roque and Ilkay Gundogan in a wide-ranging speech that even saw Laporta accused of lying about the pursuit of the Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.
“We were tricked into it,” Font said. “They threw us a quick one with Nico Williams.
“At first, they were all about him, but then they went quiet on the details. When I pointed out that we couldn’t afford it, people didn’t believe me. They bought the club’s narrative. Now, nobody believes it. more club”.
