‘Who knows?’ – Ange Postecoglou admits uncertainty over Tottenham’s future after Leicester defeat

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he is fighting for his job after a shock 2-1 defeat at relegation-threatened Leicester City.

Spurs took the lead on the day through Richarlison, though collapsed in the second half as they fell to their 13th defeat in 23 games this season. Postecoglou’s side now sit 15th in the table, just eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Postecoglou has pointed this out repeatedly spursserious injury problems to explain his struggles this season but, after his latest defeat, he admitted he may not be up front when all his stars are available.

“Who knows?” Postecoglou said when asked if he would still be in charge in two weeks. “I think there’s probably a fair bit that will say no.

“When you are the manager of a football club you can be very vulnerable and isolated. I don’t feel that. I feel that this group of players, not for me, is giving everything for the club. I have a group of staff. that are very committed in that, my role is to try to support these players.

“I can even see in practice when the guys coming back are going to give everybody a boost. As I say to the players, there’s a fantastic opportunity this season to really make an impact and I know that But as far as your question, is there anything I can say that will change something I have to do tomorrow morning?

The full-time whistle was met with cheers from the supporters, many of whom directed their frustrations at chairman Daniel Levy during the game.

“Certainly one thing I wanted to try to do when I took on this role is try to unify the club and create an environment here where we’re all focused on one thing,” Postecoglou said of the anti-Levy chants. “Obviously it didn’t work out that way.

“It’s understandable, as you say, the fans are not happy with our current situation. It’s difficult to navigate because we need them right now, especially at home to create an atmosphere.

“It wasn’t long ago that we played Liverpool here and it was a great night. Everyone was focused on one thing. Like I said, the one thing I keep saying and I think it’s important to acknowledge, the players are giving everything for this club and I think this is something that should be recognized by everyone.”
