The Chicago White Sox are the worst team in MLB.
It is also not particularly close. they are 28-89 and poised to end one of the worst records in sports history.
Their run differential is a brutal -248.
The second worst differential in the league, owned by the Colorado Rockies (-179), is still much better than the Sox.
Someone had to pay the price for Chicago’s terrible campaign, and it was manager Pedro Grifol.
The team announced Thursday that Grifol is no longer the captain.

The organization admitted the past two seasons have been “challenging” but the results have not been.
Grifol led the White Sox to a torrid 61-101 record last year, but his .239 hitting percentage this season was historically poor.
White Sox fans certainly don’t deserve such an uncompetitive team.
They have historically been one of MLB’s most traditional and relevant franchises.
However, the blame should not be placed entirely on Grifol.
The team has long signaled its intent to rebuild.
Between injuries and the White Sox having some of their best players (Dylan Seiss, Paul DeJong, Eric Fedde, Eloy Jimenez and Michael Kopech, just to name a few) out this year, Grifol hasn’t been accurate. lots of talent to work with.
Still, the Sox had to do something to at least spark a reaction from a group of players who have lost 22 of their last 23 games.
The team announced that they will begin searching for a new coach immediately, and will announce a replacement after the season.
