Which stars are poised for a potential return in Game Week 6?


The Women’s Super League will return this weekend following the conclusion of the October international break. Several stars are preparing to recover from injury when league action returns.

Find out which one WSL players may be fit for a potential return to the pitch, as well as who is set for another frustrating week on the sidelines.

Vivianne Miedema

Manchester City have recently confirmed that Vivianne Miedema has undergone “successful knee surgery” during the international hiatus. Despite confirmation that Miedema “will now begin a period of rehabilitation at the City Football Academy”, the club have yet to give a possible timetable for his return.

Miedema will therefore not travel to London with the Cityzens to face Crystal Palace this Sunday.

Lauren James

Chelsea Star Lauren James withdrew from international duty last week, after suffering a calf injury during the warm-up ahead of Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League meeting with FC Twente.

While James’ potential return date is still unclear, the Chelsea star will be absent for this weekend’s game against Everton at Goodison Park.

Catarina Macario

Catarina Macario will be absent for Chelsea’s trip to Merseyside this weekend, after the USWNT star stayed in London on international duty to work her way back to full fitness.

Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor said Macario’s return was imminent but time was “too short for this weekend”.

Hayley Raso, Felicity Gibbons

Summer signing Hayley Raso has been missing in action Tottenham Hotspur since early October, after suffering a soft tissue injury. Spurs boss Robert Vilahamn offered a positive update on his fitness ahead of Sunday’s meeting with West Ham.

“Everyone has returned to training. Tomorrow a decision will be made as to whether he is ready to start or whether he will be in the squad for Sunday,” said Vilahamn.

Jayde Rivers

Jayde Riviere was absent from international duty with Canada this month, after picking up a knock earlier Manchester United’s recent WSL match against Tottenham at Leigh Sports Village.

United manager Marc Skinner has given Riviere the all-clear, saying he is “available” to face Arsenal this Sunday.

Melvin Mallard

United No.9 Melvine Malard is set to return against the Gunners, having missed the last few WSL games with a hamstring strain.

Malard, who scored against Arsenal at Leigh Sports Village last season, has been “cleared to take part in the squad”.

Lotte Wubben-Moy did not feature for England during the international window after “a little setback” in her recovery from concussion.

The Arsenal defender was absent for the WSL win against West Ham United earlier this month, and the injury cloud continues to hang over her as the Gunners prepare for an important game against Manchester United on Sunday .

Interim head coach Renee Slegers confirmed that Wubben-Moy is still a question for Sunday, noting that he “returned to training but had some symptoms.”

With the Gunners’ central pairing of Leah Williamson and Laia Codina both currently fit, Wubben-Moy is unlikely to start for arsenal regardless of their injury status.

Noemi Mouchon

Devastating news broke at Leicester City this week after the club confirmed that young striker Noemie Mouchon has torn her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Foxes coach Amandine Miquel confirmed that Mouchon “will be out for the season.”
