Oakmont has a reputation as the toughest course in the world, but where it ranks among the best?

Built in 1903 by architect Henry Fowns, Oakmont received his first US Open in 1927. That tour was won by Tommy Armor. Subsequent champions Include Ben Hogan’s likes, Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Ernie Els and Dustin Johnson.
The course has a reputation to be harsh-in-or-in-or-in, with impossible and fast greens. “I put a coin to score my ball,” said Snead famous for the polished Oakmont greens in 1962, “and Dime slipped away.”
This year, players will take a yard with eyes: 7,372 yards, par 70. There are seven par-4s over 450 yards and two par-5 over 600 yards. 8th hours in 289 yards. There are 168 bunkers – including the famous “church pews” between third and fourth holes, shown in the photo above.

In the latest ranking of the golf 100 main courses in the world (2023-24), Oakmont decreases at no.8, requested by only three other courses: Old Course in St. Andrews (No. 3), Royal County Down (No. 6) and Royal Melbourne (No. 7).
Oakmont’s difficulty is a great deal of its sustainable seduction. Course Sorting Panelist ran Morrissett Surely assumed its challenge at the beginning of this week: “Once the course exposes whatever your weakness, it will be ruthlessly pierced for it from time to time,” he said. “Remember: Oakmont was built to be difficult and that’s what it is. If there is a more challenging course every day, I haven’t played it.”
