What’s so special about a zero taper grip?

Fasteners are very personal items. Once you find one you like, the rest of the shooter world will have to literally pry it from your cold, dead hands.

Personally, I’m a pistol guy. I like skinny ones and I like not so skinny ones, but they’ve all been pistols. So why am I scratching my head with curiosity over the new Golf Pride Zero Taper grip?

Won’t you join me on this short journey into self-therapy to find out why I suddenly have a wandering eye?

Golf Pride Zero Taper Grip: What is it?

Well, the answer to that question is all in the name, right?

Zero Taper is literal. The grip does not fade. It is parallel from top to bottom. The new Golf Pride Zero Taper grip shares a family tree with the Golf Pride Reverse Taper grip. It also does exactly what the name says. It is thick at the bottom and becomes thinner towards the top.

The benefit of Zero Taper, according to Golf Pride, is “optimizing hand placement and encouraging consistent grip pressure.”

Since both of these are something we all strive for, we can probably agree that anything that helps us do that can’t be a bad thing.

Additionally, Golf Pride says optimized hand placement and consistent grip pressure help flatten the putter’s face at impact.

This is also a good thing.

Zero Taper Specs

Golf Pride says the uniform geometric shape of the Zero Taper ensures that your upper and lower hands have the same grip feel. It says it leads to a more synchronized stroke, improved face awareness and maximum responsiveness.

Like the Reverse Taper, the new Zero Taper grips are made using polyurethane instead of rubber. The material is similar to what you’ll find in the Super Stroke grips, although the Zero Taper grips feel a bit more supple. It’s a soft, responsive feel that tells you if you’re gripping too hard. If you didn’t know better, you’d swear he was pushing it back, telling you to take it easy.

The new Zero Taper grip is the latest product to come from Golf Pride’s Global Innovation Center in Pinehurst, NC It is located adjacent to Pinehurst no. 8 and serves as Golf Pride’s global research, design and marketing headquarters.

Golf Pride Zero Taper Grips are available in two sizes (medium and large) and three bold colors (red, black and blue).

The new Zero Taper Gloves will be available at retailers and online starting February 17th. They will retail for $34.99.
