Victoria Golf Club’s first hole.

One Trippy thing happens when you fly to Australia. Monitors in the seat again in front of you display the location of your aircraft, climbing over the Pacific Ocean. Soon America’s west coast disappears from the right side of the screen, and nothing immediately replaces it on the left side. You are navigating, up to the sky and all you see is blue.
It is a wild realization that the place you are visiting requires a direct jump on the largest basin on the planet, but every ability with what is washed away from what comes next: you cross the line of international date AND Equator at the same time. From Wednesday to Friday AND From winter to summer, just like him. And for golf golf in the cabin, it’s not just another day and another season – you’re transported to another WORLDWIDE of golf.
We made this trip about 12 months ago, from the bottom, Drab Winter in Midwest until late summer, delightful in Melbourne. And while the journey would have been completely enough if we were just spending it just enjoying the sights, sounds and sports events down, we were smart enough to bring in the sticks with us, lining three rounds in three of the best courses in world: Kingston heath (No. 22), Victoria (No. 96) and Western course of Royal Melbourne (No. 7).
Below is a summary of the lessons received in all three. But first, a video that explains it even better.

1. Kingston heath is Thinking of the human golf
If Kingston Heath were Scottish and not Australian, it would look different, but I’m not sure he would let you feel different. With its strong strong terrain, your ball moves to the ground as it does in Carnoustie in July. And like some of the link courses on the eastern coast of Scotland, Kingston is flat as sandpaper. For some, this puts a ceiling in the rank of this course. There is no view or water bodies to see. Just just grass, sand and brushes and trees – all woven together in a way that reveals yourself only once to be on top of it. You know, as the old course in St. Andrews.
Kingston Heath is quite welcomed outside 1, located only outside the club windows. However, slowly and surely, it begins to feel treacherous. The boundaries of each hole begin to lead inside. The brush feels thicker in the nine rear. The favorite angles in her greens look a way on top and feel very different from the right path.
Why? Because of that flattening. This allows bunkers to hide behind other bunkers, and the green corners are much larger (or smaller) than they appear. The difficulty of shooting at Kingston Heath is not greater than what you will find elsewhere in Sandbelt, but the result of this rogue course is your brain should be changed IN at any time. There is no blow to your focus. This is Thinking of the human golfAs I like to call it. Four hours of maneuvers that leave you feel accomplished if you can squeeze something in the 70s or ’80s.
2. Victoria: House of my favorite 4 shorts
The best opening hole and the best hole (period) on our journey took place at Victoria Golf Club, the course of our entire group agreed was better than its 96th rank in the world. There may be no more seductive hole than Victoria’s 1st, which plays only 254 yards to the abyss, parallel to the entry of Magnolia Drive-Esque on the property.
Everyone can go to Victoria’s 1st green, but do you want? You don’t do if your typical ball flight is a draw. And with a bad angle from the right, you also sneaky do not want to hit a pallor. The smartest game is something that rolls only short and left green, but requires a left -handed car perfectly placed. And everything that derives from the right will leave you with the most frightening approach to the game: a shot with 40 yards. If this is a cutter of handshake, it is one of those handshakes with your next father -in -law who wants to remind you who is the boss in this family.
The first in Victoria GC in Melbourne.
254-Oborr, Subtraction par-4.
A opening of the hands! Not exactly.
Fairway requires a draw, but small green is only accessible with a pallor.
Strong pan bunkers do not offer much for rotation.
I love this hole very much. pic.twitter.com/gsyuvuhf2ll– SEAN ZAK (@sean_zak) February 26 2025
As for the short PAR-4S, it is among the best, but it is not the best in property. This distinction goes to the 15th of Victoria, a soft dogleg that bends the left that measures about 315 yards from the back teas. A mess of bunkers lines the left side of the road, which becomes thinner progressively as it moves towards the green. But the hole shows you a simple thing ahead: Play whatever You want to get out of your finger, be it a medium iron, a long iron, a 3-tree or a driver. Long going borders you to a low gorge with tight lies. So how short do you want to play it for safety outside of tee? Our fourth received four different clubs from the Tee, made three very different pars and a triple trunk. A perfect result.
3. Melbourne Royal has all
Josh Sens, our travel expert, prepared us for the western course of Royal Melbourne-Jewah of Aussie Golf’s crown-referring to it as a mature national Augusta. And while most of any comparison with Angc feels irresponsible – and I kept my doubts – this is not. Royal Melbourne does LOT of what Augusta National does. Like Angc, you are immediately near a busy road, in the middle of a city, and you would not know it. The movement of the Earth is not so drastic, but it is serious. You play down these heavens of the wide open land in the par-4s and then shoot them again in the par-3s. There is not a hole in the property that feels like interference, or similar to another hole you have just played.
Simply put, what Royal Melbourne offers you is endless variety. Which makes for a string of 18 holes that you can immediately play in your mind after the round. And what the course requires in the process is: Kind what kind of shooting can you hit? You will love them all here. This is what should require a 10 best course in the world.
