What we know about the new PRO X Rangefinder shooting range

The new Shot Scope PRO X range finder surprised us a bit this week.

Shooting range uses the PGA Show every year to launch at least one new product, so we were expecting something. We just didn’t expect that.

I mean that in a good way.

Scotland-based Shot Scope excels at two things. First, its photo tracking GPS watches are hassle-free, easy to use, reasonably priced, and, perhaps most importantly, don’t require a weekly, monthly, or annual subscription.

Second, Shot Scope offers solid performing laser rangefinders at surprisingly affordable prices. The new PRO X is the latest in that lineup, but it packs a pretty cool punch.

You can customize it.

Shot Scope PRO X

By itself, the Shot Scope PRO X appears to be a basic, no-nonsense laser rangefinder priced at $199.99. For two bucks, you get everything you could want in a rangefinder: adaptive tilt technology, rapid fire detection, target lock-on vibrations, an extra-strong carriage magnet, and 6X zoom that’s accurate to a yard .

It also comes in two colors (black or white) and has a range of over 800 yards in case you ever need to go for a par-16 in two.

It is the customizable option that makes it interesting.

Shooting range is making available a variety of designer tees for golfers to have some fun and boost their distances. This is fun for people like you and me, but the biggest draw for Shot Scope is that it will also custom design golf boards for golf courses, events or businesses.

Shot Scope requires a minimum order of six units for that level of customization with free shipping included.

We’ll get a chance to check out the new Shot Scope PRO X next week at the PGA Show and provide a full report.

Where it fits

Shot Scope is becoming a major player in the sub-$300 laser game. It’s a crowded market, to be sure, but with the new PRO X, Shooting range now there are four options in that price range.

The flagship is the powerful PRO ZR that launched this time last year and retails for $299.99. On the other side is last year’s compact PRO LT Best value winner in the MyGolfSpy extension test. It retails for $149.99.

Then there is the PRO LX. At $269.99, it’s kind of a no-brainer. By itself, it doesn’t offer much that you can’t get with the PRO LT for $120 less. What makes it useful is a built-in magnet under the eyepiece. For an additional C note, you can turn it into the PRO LX+. This includes the Shot Scope H4 GPS unit and the shot tracker that attaches to the unit using that magnet. If nothing else, it’s an option.

The PRO X makes for a better gripper that separates the ZR and LT. The customization options make it fun. The corporate, event and golf course potential makes it very attractive to Shot Scope.

Also on the show…

Shooting range will also debut the new G6 GPS watch in Orlando. It’s an update to Shot Scope’s Standard G5 GPS watch. Like its predecessor, the G6 offers basic GPS functionality, including front-to-back distances to greens and front-to-back distances to hazards. What is new, however, is that the G6 will offer a full hole map feature to get a better idea of what a hole looks like.

“We are fully committed to giving golfers the best tools to enable them to have a more engaging experience on the course,” Shot Scope CEO David Hunter said in the press release.

We don’t have pricing yet for the new G6 watch. We’ll let you know as soon as we see it on the show.
