What was it like looking at Rory Mcilroy’s Masters Week from inside the ropes

Few people had a better view of Week of Rory Mcilroy’s historical masters than his partners playing.

On Sunday that was Bryson Dechambeau – though he was probably not very excited with the score – and Saturday was Corey Conners.

But it was Akshay Bhatia and Ludwig Aberg who had the front row places for the first two rounds. Bhatia (along with Keegan Bradley) was in the past week Podcast Subpar of Golf – which was registered directly at the bank at Hilton Head Island during the RBC legacy – and discussed what he saw from Mcilroy early on the tournament.

“I never expected to be in that group just based on world rankings and what everyone else wants to see, but I control my phone and all of a sudden I see Rory Mcilroy and Ludwig, and Ludwig I have played many times,” 23-year-old Bhatia said. “And I was like a man, that’s the first time I have to play with Rory Mcilroy.”

Mcilroy shot 72 with two double bogeys on Thursday and shot 66 on Friday.

“I’ve never seen anyone hit such a good driver; he played brilliantly in the first round and made some doubles and somehow beaten him in the first round,” said Bhatia, who shot the 70th on Thursday. “And I was like, man, that guy, he played so well. And you almost feel like, how can I compete with it? He hits him away, he hits him straight, his wedge game was great. He did not crave me I don’t think within 10 feet on Friday.”

Of course, everything led to a green jacket and Grand Slam career.

“It was really interesting for me to see, as he was a kind of boy of our generation, to finally catch him,” Bhatia said. “Really inspired me and a lot of people that I think seeing that last round.”
