Day 9 of US Open brings marquee names, poddy matches and … the end of the 16th round. Here is what we will keep the tabs.
Coco vs Naomi again
Coco Guff was only 15 years old when she first met Naomi Osaka in the third round at US Open 2019. She was defeated 6-3, 6-0, but the match would not be the story that night in Arthur Ase Stadium, the interaction after the match will.

Even at the age of 15, Gauff had her knowing that the moment could be misunderstood by some, so she explained.

Osaka was also ripping, after she addressed Guff’s parents.
“To me the fact that we both did it, and we both are still working so hard that I can think is extraordinary. And I think you guys are amazing, and I think Coco, you are amazing.”
Six years later and so much has changed. Gauff is now a champion twice, and Osaka is on the trace of returning after maternity leave (her daughter was in July 2023) and slips from the top of the sport due to mental health issues. Here in New York, Osaka has returned to the second week of a Major for the first time since she won her latest Australian Open title in 2021. Gauff, meanwhile, has been up and down, but mainly. She won her second big title in Paris in June, but has had fighting with her service and hired a new biomechanics expert just before the US Open to help the coast of her game.
She had a rough match of the second round in which she was clearly exciting in court, but came through her, and sailed with the third round to decide the sixth meeting of the couple’s career.

Sinner vs bublik night
The first collision of Sunday night session in the US Open contains a round of 16 confrontations between two men who confidently stuck: Jannik Sinner and Alexander Bublik.
