Iga Swiatek could regain the No.1 ranking and finish as the WTA Year-End No.1 for the third consecutive year, but to do so, Pola will need to – at the very least – successfully defend her title in WTA finals next week in Riyadh. Saudi Arabia.
Swiatek, who follows the current world no Aryna Sabalenka with 1,046 points entering the end-of-season championships, should be strong. If she loses two round-robin matches in Riyadh, Sabalenka can seal the year-end No.1 ranking with just one win in round-robin play.
If Sabalenka goes 3-0 in the round robin, she would secure the No.1 ranking regardless of Swiatek’s result.
It will be a tough battle for Swiatek. See the table of ranking scenarios below, provided by the WTA.
Play begins at the WTA Finals on Saturday 2 November.
