Less is more.
The guide principle after many of the largest models of the golf course also applies to their maintenance.
Take Cycle Points Club.
In a California site that he described as a “incomparable land meeting and sea”, Alister MacKenzie made a point of tread easily. He believed that it would not be better confused with nature.
The Cypress Point Maintenance Team feels the same.
“We are here to suit the landscape as best as we can. We do not want to see or stay too much,” says Kevin Marsh, a supporter of the club. “We want to do our job, but we want the golf course to be the main center.”
As most thirsty players know, Cypress Point is private, intensely so. But on September 6-7, the course will take a rare turn in the public eye when it welcomes Pedestrian cupAn event in which the hospitality last played in 1981.
This will be the 50th game of biennial competition, a confrontation with the match matches by throwing a team of US amateurs against their counterparts from the UK and Ireland. Is a great job. And this year’s place, which ranks 2nd after Pine Valley, in Golf list for 100 best courses in the worldadds size.
In the lead of the Walker Cup, Golf.com spent a day with the Cypress Point maintenance crew, following Marsh, superintendent Jeff Markow and their staff. The resulting video includes stunning images of one of the most picturesque courses in the world, while ducks in dunes and forests on a bad street that teases players overlooking the ocean before hitting a Krescedo on the coast. But the images are also educational, providing knowledge of what it takes to care for a uniquely startling site.
Even if you had the pleasure of playing it, this is Cypress Point as you’ve never tried it before. Enjoy.
