West Ham’s £75,000-a-week summer signing said he couldn’t run

Former West Ham ace Don Hutchison has not held back in his criticism of new signing Guido Rodriguez, lashing out at the player following his presentation at Spurs at the weekend.

If there’s one game Hammers fans want to win above all others, it seems to be the one against Tottenham Hotspur, and the visitors fell well short of expected standards in their recent 4-1 defeat.

The goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola, was one of those to criticizealthough Hutchison was particularly critical of the experienced Argentine Rodríguez.

“Their midfield was awful today, West Ham. I mean, there are no legs in midfield,” he said ESPN FC.

“Guido Rodríguez can’t really move, Tomas Soucek is a box-to-box player, but he doesn’t feel like moving up the field and stopping things.

“And (Lucas) Paqueta has one of those days where he’s good with the ball, but he doesn’t want to go back.”

While Julen Lopetegui must take his share of the blame for not melding his new signings into anything approaching a decent footballing XI, the players must help him as well.

Rodriguez is paid around £75,000 per week (capology), and his lack of effort against the north Londoners is not good enough.

That’s it, and the attitude of his colleagues that could see Lopetegui soon get the office.

The Hammers have three more games before the international break against Man United, Nottingham Forest and Everton.

If Lopetegui fails to get six points from those three games, there is a compelling case for the Hammers board to consider their position on the Spaniard.

Bringing in someone else at that time would give them six weeks or so to overhaul what they have in place before using their skills in the January transfer market to help the Hammers out of their current funk.
