
The Adelaide Strikers sealed a seven-wicket victory over the Melbourne Renegades in their ninth match Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 at Karen Rolton Oval. A dominant chase bowling display led by Laura Wolvaardt powered the Strikers to their first win of the season.
After winning the ball first, batsman captain Tahlia McGrath saw the bowlers immediately stop paying as their reserves kept a modest total.
Strikers’ bowlers shine as Renegades fight for momentum
Renegades’ innings never gains momentum as wickets fall regularly. Courtney Webb (46 off 39) and Skipper Georgia Wareham (30 Off 23) tried to build a partnership, but the bowling unit of the strikers ensured that no batter could control it.
Darcie Brown produced a fiery new ball spell to dismiss Davina Perrin and Webb to finish with 2/24. Spin also played an important role with Sophie Ecclestone including key wickets for Wareham and Naomi Stalenberg.
Skipper Tahlia McGrath took 1/22 and Amanda-Jade Wellington put together a tight 1/22 from her four overs.
Wolvardt causes a load of strikes in a mixed run chase
Chasing 142, the strikers started with a solid 63-run opening stand with Tammy Beaumont and Laura Wolvaardt. Beaumont played confidently for 34 before being bowed out by Wareham in the seventh over.
However Laura Wolvaardt He was a standout performer who produced an elegant and powerful shot. He remained unbeaten in 71 off 48 balls, hitting 10 fours at 147.91. His superior timing and positioning ensured that the attackers were always ahead of the required rate.

Madeline Penna (5) and Tahlia McGrath (3), Wolvaardt found strong support in Bridget Patterson, who finished 12.4 not out to lead the team home in 12.4, sealing a comfortable seven-wicket win despite brief hiccups with Wolvaardt’s dismissal.

The Renegades have struggled to exert pressure, with the bowlers offering too many scoring opportunities. Tess Flintoff was the pick of the attack with 2/27, removing Penna and McGrath.
But the rest of the bowling unit struggled to break Wolvaardt’s controlled pace. Georgia Wareham, Sarah Coyte, Alice Capsey and Milly Illingworth could not contain the borderline flow.
Wolvaardt was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant batting performance.
