WATCH: Virat Kohli bows out to Ravichandran Ashwin during Chennai Test



India MA made a strong start to the Test season with a 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test at the Chidambaram Stadium. Ravichandran Ashwin was instrumental in India’s winboth bat and ball.

Ashwin’s 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja in the first innings helped India recover from a shaky start. The veteran spinner then hit a six in the fourth innings of the match to ensure India’s dominant victory.

Ravichandran Ashwin reflects on his performance

After the match, Ashwin said that he was satisfied with his performance and his team’s victory. He acknowledged the pressure he faced to replace him Harbhajan SinghHe thanked the legendary spinner and the support he received throughout his career.

“I can’t really comment on how I have affected this Test match. I had big shoes to fill, I came in to replace Harbhajan, I was replicating his act in junior cricket, he inspired me. Ashwin said.

The local boy also emphasized the importance of preparation and experience in his success. He cited his training in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) as a major factor in his performance.

“Normally when you hit the ball here (Chepauk Stadium) it doesn’t move faster but it was a different pitch, it felt like it was in the 2010s, the preparation I showed playing TNPL helped. I had a good prep camp before TNPL and also finished well in TNPL. It helped me here.” he added.

The veteran off-spinner even shed light on his partnership with Jadeja, highlighting their understanding and experience. He noted that Jadeja’s calm presence and batting ability give the team a sense of stability.

“He (Ravindra Jadeja) is one of the best batsmen in the Indian team, maybe in the world, he is a reliable batsman, Jadeja’s exit gives a lot of peace to the team. He helped me a lot with my shots. He told me that you seem to be hitting very well, you have to bend as soon as you face the first 10 balls, you are talking about dropping a few more balls. This partnership comes with experience and a lot of hitting.” Ashwin, who was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round show, added more.
