Unfortunately, Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed for a duck in his first international match at home in Mumbai. The 27-year-old middle-order batsman received an almost unplayable ball from left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel and gave him no reply.
As Sarfaraz tried to defend, the ball spun and returned after the impact. But the ball clipped goalkeeper Tom Blundell’s glove as it went through. The umpire didn’t hesitate to raise his finger as Sarfaraz was dismissed for bowling the fourth ball.
Sarfaraz Khan’s father Naushad Khan and brother Mushir Khan were also present during the match. But after being fired, they were disappointed. Sarfaraz, who had an excellent performance at the Wankhede Stadium, was dismissed without scoring a goal.

Sarfaraz Khan’s numbers at the Wankhede Stadium
Before this match, Sarfaraz Khan had a great record at his home ground. The right-hander scored 601 runs in 6 first-class matches at an average of 150 with 2 hundreds and 1 fifty. He has played most of his red ball cricket at this venue and knows it well.
However, his first international outing at the Wankhede turned out to be a nightmare for him. The 27-year-old football player will try to come back in the second half of the match.
Sarfaraz Khan’s brother Musheer Khan is also an active first-class cricketer and plays for Mumbai. Recently, Musheer impressed everyone in the U-19 World Cup earlier this year and scored a hundred for India A in the Duleep Trophy.
Sarfaraz’s batting position was also under the scanner in this innings. He came into bat at number 8 below all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja was sent in earlier to guard the left-right combination in the middle.
Shubman Gill top score for India
India were 204-7 when Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed. Shubman Gill was the next Indian wicketkeeper to fall. Gill hit brilliantly under pressure on a pitch that offered spin and bounce to the spinners.
He was dismissed for a well-crafted 90-ball 146 and also became India’s highest run-scorer in the innings. Washington came in after the fall of Sundar Sarfaraz’s wicket and hit an all-rounder to put India in the lead.
Sundar made an unbeaten 38 off just 36 balls and hit 4 fours and 2 sixes during his innings. However, Akash Deep’s fortuitous effort saw India bowl out for 263 in their first innings, giving them a slender lead of 28 runs.
Earlier in the day, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill got off to a good start and took India through New Zealand’s first innings with ease. But Pant’s wicket opened the door for New Zealand and they took full advantage of it. Pant hit a quickfire 60 off 59 balls.
