In a strange incident on Day 2 of the Adelaide Test between Australia and India, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh decided to surrender and walk off the field despite not being dismissed.
It was offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s first appearance of the second session. Ashwin hit a fly ball outside off stump as Marsh tried to defend with stiff hands. The ball did not turn as Marsh was beaten outside off and the ball was caught by Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.
India went for an appeal and umpire Richard Illingworth gave it only after seeing Mitchell Marsh start to walk. But later it turned out that the soldier had hit the bat with his pad, where there was a large gap between the bat and the ball.
Nothing found on Snicko as Marsh would not have got out easily had he taken the DRS. However, as soon as he was beaten, he decided to leave the field immediately. He was dismissed for just 9 off 26 balls.
