England’s bucket starts in a tough chase
England’s innings never quite recovered from the early blow by KAPP. Chasing a tough target of 320, the English bowlers found themselves well behind the required run rate despite some efforts to stop the innings. By the 14th over, England stood at 59 for 3, including key touches cheap Tammy Beaumont. Nat increases and Alice Capsey managed to hold their places with scores of 30 and 25 respectively, but the required run-rate, increasing the pressure, rose above 7 runs per over. South African bowlers kept tight lines and exploited any batting errors, scoring runs.
England’s top-order collapse set a tough tone as they struggled to form a partnership against a spirited South African bowling attack led by Kapp et al. Ayabonga khaka. England wanted 261 overs, needing 261 from 36 overs at a run rate of over 7 overs if they were to finish.
