Carlos Alcaraz He could not find answers when faced with a rise in aggression by David Goffin on Friday evening.
Thus, the Spaniard suffered a surprise loss for the 34-year-old Belgian and will go to the Argila season seeking solutions as he failed to win titles in Indian Wells, where he was a two-time defense champion, and Miami, where he was a former champion.
Alcaraz, who will turn 22 on May 5, said his attempt was a little mystery to him.
“It was a poor level from me,” Alcaraz said, according to ATP. “I just wanted to play better. After the first set, I thought I would be better. He played well, he played good tennis. My level didn’t rise. I think his level after the first set increased slightly.”
Alcaraz had problems dictating against Goff, and he fell into the match four times while fell to 15-4 a season. Not exactly a terrible record, but not what the Spaniard, who claimed his 17th title of his career in Rotterdam in February, was looking for.

“I didn’t play well, I did not feel good physically. When you don’t have the confidence of your level physically, I think it’s really hard to keep good tennis,” he said. “I didn’t feel well on my feet. I wasn’t hurt. I wasn’t sick. I felt perfectly before the match.
“I felt good, a little nervous, which is normal before the match. But nothing more than that. I just felt ready, I thought I would play really good tennis.”
