Virat Kohli or Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was to blame? Parthiv Patel drops a truth bomb on the run

Former Indian National Cricket Team player Parthiv Patel spoke about the mix-up between Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal on the second day of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia. He said it was a mistake by the left-hander as there was no need to take a quick single.

Indian National Cricket Team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock went badly as the batsman got into and out of a terrible mess with Virat Kohli. His wicket sent the visitors reeling as they went on to lose three wickets in one go.

Yashasvi Jaiswal runs out after messing with Virat Kohli

Yashasvi Jaiswal played a solid drive to mid off against Scott Boland and called for a quick run and he departed. Kohli, on the other hand, did not look interested as he turned back and looked at the ball rather than his batting partner.

Kohli kept looking at the ball and Yashasvi Jaiswal kept running but was close to his crease. Pat Cummins attacked the ball and flicked it at the striker’s end but missed the target. Alex Carey ran, collected the ball and made a run to end the batter’s innings on 82 runs.

The situation changed after this run – Parthiv Patel

Talking about the match, Parthiv Patel said that the run changed the entire course of the game. He emphasized that India were in complete control and emphasized that both Kohli and Yashaswi Jaiswal were batting at their best. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he explained:

“The way India started the session, the way the game went in the last half hour, there were about 25 minutes to go, India were in complete control. Especially the runs coming in, the pace of the runs. Everything was going in India’s favour.

“He was very patient, forcing Australia to bowl against him. Yashasvi Jaiswal was also playing his game. He played his game the way he played his game, but the misfortune ran away from where the whole game changed. Things changed after that.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal made a mistake, looked rushed – Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel also feels that it was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s mistake as the pitch was too close and Kohli did not expect the young batsman to run. He said even if a run is taken, there is a chance of Kohli being run out in the batsman’s end. He explained:

“If we go to the basics of cricket, if the ball is behind, then the call is the striker and the call here was Yashasi Jaiswal, there is no doubt about that. But the middle bowler was standing in front of Virat Kohli. So I don’t think Virat Kohli was expecting Yashashi Jaiswal to call a run here. Jaiswal made a mistake, looked hastily.

“There was no need for it. It was such a call. If Virat Kohli had run, maybe he would have had a chance to run in the end. And that was the game, that was the situation. There was no need for that run as the boundaries were coming easily.”
