If Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fought this year in 2025, who would win?
The rivalry between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has been around for years, but it has only existed outside the ring and in theoretical terms. Once upon a time Fury was the WBC and lineal world heavyweight champion, Joshua was the unified IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion, and the expectation was that these two would have an inevitable showdown for undisputed heavyweight supremacy. However, it never happened.
Right now Fury and Joshua are both showing signs of decline. Joshua has a 6-4 record over his last 10 fights, which has included a loss to Andy Ruiz Jr, a pair of losses to reigning heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk, and most recently he was destroyed by Daniel Dubois. Fury is coming off back-to-back losses, the only 2 losses of his professional career, both against Usyk. In the end, neither Fury nor Joshua were the best in this era. Instead, it was Oleksandr Usyk who captured the division, and he did so in very impressive style, becoming the first undisputed world heavyweight champion in the modern 4-belt era after his first of two victories against Fury.
As for Usyk, the most logical next opponent for him would be the winner of the upcoming fight between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker. However, the winner of that fight could potentially get the opportunity for a much bigger payday than he would against Usyk if he instead defended against Fury, or especially Joshua. Short of that, assuming the winner of Dubois-Parker faces Usyk next, then a fight between Fury and AJ makes a lot of sense for both Fury and Joshua.
The truth of the matter is even though neither of them is champion, and even though they are both past their prime, a fight between Fury and Joshua remains an interesting prospect with lasting legacy implications for both heavyweights. It would also undoubtedly be another huge event where both fighters would be in line to make a ton of money.
