Dubois became the IBF heavyweight champion without winning it inside the ring. Back in June, he beat Filip Hrgovic to become the IBF interim champion, putting him in a mandatory position to challenge their champion, Oleksandr Usyk. A little over a month after Usyk beat Tyson Fury to become the first undisputed world heavyweight champion in nearly a quarter of a century, Usyk vacated the IBF belt and as a result Dubois was promoted and became the new IBF champion. For Daniel Dubois, the fight against AJ offered him the chance to win his first fight while competing for a major world championship. On the other hand, this fight gave Joshua the opportunity to become only the fourth boxer in history to become a three-time heavyweight champion.
Joshua was the favorite going into this one, but the fight ended up being a complete and total nightmare for the former two-time unified heavyweight champion. In a passing the torch type event, Dubois thoroughly dominated Joshua from start to finish, dropping him four times before scoring the big knockout in round 5.
This issue of Rummy’s Corner will provide a quick recap and overview of the championship fight between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua, while also providing opinions on where Dubois should go from here, and whether it is in Joshua’s best interest to activate his rematch clause with Dubois. Please watch and enjoy the video for one man’s opinion. This is Rummy’s Corner (produced and narrated by Geoffrey Ciani).
