Technically, this struggle is a unification for all marbles, every most important alphabet title, the Ring Magazine Championship and a legitimate claim to the gender. In reality, however, it is more a technical. Canelo was all the undisputed king at 168, and he never lost the IBF belt in the ring. Canelo was stripped of their belt by the IBF, and Scull then won the vacant belt when he won a unanimous decision against Vladimir Shishkin last October.
The IBF has the habit of destroying undisputed reign. They did the same exact thing to Terence Crawford shortly after becoming the first undisputed world-welterweight champion in the modern 4 belt, and they also put Olexesandr Utuyk under pressure that he evacuated the IBF belt on heavyweight shortly after he first unwilling in the Modern 4-Gorrel ERA division. To beat Scull, Canelo can technically make it undisputed at 168, but Canel remains the king of the division that goes into the fight against Scull.
