SNAC founder Victor Conte questions why Ryan Garcia rejected Devin Haney’s father and manager Bill Haney’s offer to agree to the 48-hour deadline to begin VADA testing for a possible rematch to happen.
Conte doesn’t understand why Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) wouldn’t agree to enter the drug testing program to get the lucrative rematch with Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) going. In Ryan’s rejection of Bill Haney’s 48-hour deadline he had given him to enroll in VADA, he stated this as the reasons:
- “They’re suing me.”
- “I don’t need them.”
Ryan Garcia forgot to mention that he is still suspended and will not be available to fight until April 2025. It would be pointless for Ryan to sign up for drug testing now while suspended and with no contract signed for a rematch with Haney.
Once the rematch is negotiated and a fight date is selected, it would make sense for Garcia, 26, to sign up for VADA testing. Drug testing is quite expensive, and while Ryan is obviously a millionaire, he is not at the level of Gilded age tycoon Andrew Carnegie, with his massive $310 billion fortune.
If there is a rematch, Bill and Devin Haney must assume their B-side role in the negotiations with Ryan Garcia, who is extremely popular with his 12 million Instagram followers, charisma and promotional ability. Ryan obliterated Haney in their April 20 fight, winning a one-sided 12-round majority decision, and deserves to be the A-side in a potential second fight with Devin.
