Hello friends, and welcome to the final Rogers Report of 2024. or LOT event this year, and lucky for all of us, it was all captured on social media. I’m not here to bring you a roundup of the best rounds of golf this year or talk about the gadgets that changed the game. Instead, I’ll do what I do best: present you all with a timeline of the 2024 golf season in viral social media moments.
Let’s go to her.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
For amateurs like you and me, the start of the golf season is all about shaking off the rust. It’s part of the process and most of us have the privilege of doing it in the privacy of our home course with very few people around. Tom Brady wasn’t so lucky in 2024. He used it at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and his game was on display for the world to see.
The good thing about being the GOAT in football is that you are allowed to have some ugly golf moments without anyone judging you for it. Thanks for reminding us that you’re human, Brady.
WC Phoenix Open
Ah, the WM Phoenix Open. Bachelor party of professional golf tournaments. It’s safe to say things got a little out of hand on move-in day at TPC Scottsdale, so the gates were closed and alcohol sales were closed in the middle of the day on Saturday.
The WM Phoenix Open has since revealed a number of changes in the eventbut the chaotic 2024 WM Phoenix Open will never be forgotten.
The invitation of Genesis
The Genesis Invitational is a highly anticipated event every year because it marks the first time we see Tiger Woods. The tournament host made his first start of 2024 there this year, but it was his exit from the tournament that caused a stir. Woods was escorted off the course midway through his round on Friday, and an ambulance was soon on site at Riviera.
I remember sitting in the Riviera media center for hours as we waited to hear an update from Team Tiger. Turns out he had the flu, but this was definitely one of the most stressful viral moments of 2024. Unless you’re Scottie Scheffler, of course.
Players Championship
The Players Championship was a memorable week for a number of reasons, but one that stands out to me is Johnson Wagner’s debut as an on-course comeback performer. A star was born at the Players Championship, and we’ll take a look at Wagner’s best moment of the year later. For now, take a look at his golf swing skills.
We also can’t forget Scottie Scheffler’s mid-neck treatment at The Players. He went on to win the event (in classic Scheffler fashion), but not before the world saw this unusual video.
Master
Jason Day turned heads for his Malbon apparel all year, but his biggest fashion moment came when he wore a “Malbon Golf Championship” vest at Augusta National, though the moment didn’t last long because he was asked to remove it.
The jacket may not have had its full day at the Masters, but it was auctioned off for charity, which is a massive win.
The next viral moment at Augusta National came from the king of content himself. Bryson DeChambeau was holding a Masters scoreboard from his fairway on the 13th hole and it was perhaps the most biblical golf moment of the year.
I can’t help but feel a sense of pride every time a golf moment enters the Art But Make it Sports account, and to the surprise of absolutely no one, the comparison here was perfect.
And finally, we had Tiger Woods shaking hands with Verne Lundquist, who happened to be standing behind a tree, to round out our 2024 Masters viral moments.
This marks the second year in a row that Tiger’s greeting to someone has turned into a viral moment.
Here’s whatever viral “hello” Tiger has in the works in 2025.
Classic Zurich
I’d like to thank Rory McIlroy for giving us our first viral “High School Musical-esque” moment ever in the world of golf this year. I opened my Twitter app on April 28th expecting to see a post of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry holding the Zurich Classic trophy, and instead I was met with Rory McIlroy singing “Don’t Stop Believin'” on stage.
Imagine LeBron doing that after winning a game? Incomprehensible! I love it.
With Gala
Nelly Korda became the first LPGA Tour golfer to participate With Gala this year and the first pro golfer to attend since Tiger Woods in 2013. Korda somehow found the time after her five straight wins to go to Manhattan and absolutely crush the red carpet.
The World No. 1 made her Sports Illustrated swimsuit debut this year, so it’s safe to say Korda has been very busy on and off the course.
The PGA Championship
Scottie Scheffler’s Louisville arrest is the viral moment of 2024 that felt more like a fever dream. Thanks to Jeff Darlington for arriving at Valhalla incredibly early that morning, because without him, we might have had no idea any of this had happened.
I also want to give a shout out to Meredith Scheffler because she was at home with a newborn when this happened and I can’t imagine how stressful that day must have been. May 17 will undoubtedly be the strangest golf day of the year.
Women’s US Open
The US Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club was one of the most fun events I attended all year. The course was immaculate, the place was packed and the golf was really, really good. But one moment emerged as the most memorable, and Darren Riehl himself captured it.
For better or worse, golf fans (and all of sports Twitter) went ballistic Charley Hull smoking a cigarette in the course. Her sensibilities multiplied overnight and photos of her smoking while wearing it make the rounds every time she plays in a tournament now.
RBC Canadian Open
The healthiest viral moment of the year happened at the RBC Canadian Open, when Bob MacIntyre earned his first PGA Tour victory the same week he welcomed his father as his caddy. Talk about a dream come true.
That’s what the game is all about, folks!
US Open
The first viral screenshot at Pinehurst this year happened when Rory McIlroy was teeing off after his final round of the US Open.
However, I’d like to focus on a happier moment from Pinehurst, so let’s turn our attention to US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau giving Johnson Wagner a bunker lesson Sunday night at Pinehurst.
We never know exactly what DeChambeau will give us, but we know it will be great. And this was no exception.
Travelers Championship
I remember flying from Pinehurst to the Travelers Championship last June and thinking I was in for a quiet week after an eventful major championship. Boy, was I wrong. Protesters entered the 18th tee Sunday at TPC River Highlands, delaying and distracting from the tournament’s final shots.
What a strange end to a week in Connecticut.
Wyndham Championship
Matt Kuchar’s viral moment was one of the most confusing events of the year. He pushed the Wyndham Championship to a Monday finish and got another six minutes of play after returning to the course on Monday morning.
Presidents Cup
Si Woo Kim mimicked Steph Curry’s “Night Night” party after attending the Presidents Cup, but it was the timing of it all that made the moment go viral.
Curry even chimed in on the moment on his Instagram story, saying “I appreciate the energy and love @siwookim_official,” Curry wrote. “I have to know the time and mark it!!! #USA”
Honestly, I was all about cheering on the International Team at the Presidents Cup. It made the event ten times more fun to watch, so I’m in full support of Kim’s celebrations here.
PNC Championship
Our final viral moment of 2024 happened Sunday at the PNC Championship, when Charlie Woods hit his first ace. Talk about perfect timing.
Here’s to many, many more virals Golf Moments in 2025!
