The former world champion with two divisions Oscar Valdez (32-3, 24 COs) return Saturday 6 September 2025in a 10-round junior lightweight fight against Ricky Medina (26-7, 10 COs) at the Binary Dome In quite, Mexico. The event is broadcast live ESPN Sport In the US
Valdez’s current position
Valdez has not fought since last December when he was stopped in the sixth round WBO Super Featherweight Champion Emanuel Navarrete. It was his second defeat to Navarrete in so many years, both unilateral issues that highlighted the gap between Valdez and the current elite at 130 pounds.
Promoter Bob arum confirmed that Valdez is still looking for a third world title, although he has not yet specified which champion is being targeted. A trilogy with Navarrete would have little attraction, given how decisive the first two fights were. The other belt containers – Lamont Roach Jr., Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez, and O’Shaqui Foster -All represent dangerous options for a 33-year-old fighter with miles on the clock.
An important test for Valdez
“Oscar Valdez is a proud fighter, and it is a wonderful opportunity for him to return and prove that he still has what is needed to camp at 130 pounds,” said Top chairman Bob Arum. “Oscar has been with the top ranks since he became pro, and we are in his corner as he tries to become a three-time world champion.”
On paper, Medina is not expected to be a great threat. He dropped two of his last three fights and did not have power at the highest level. Yet, with the youth on his side, he may test how many Valdez is left. Over the last five battles, Valdez lost three – two against Navarrete and one to Shakur Stevenson – All running defeats that have caused doubt about his longevity.
Can Valdez regain the success of the past?
Valdez’s most successful run has come 126 poundswhere he first won a world title and established himself as one of Mexico’s brightest stars. A return to that section can give a more realistic path back to the quarrel. At 130, he did not show the same sharpness or physical strength needed to compete with the current champions.
