If you are a player who tends to smash or push everything to the rightyou are not alone. Ask 100 amateur players what their loss is and I’ll bet 90 percent of them would describe this exact result.
While there is one a number of different reasons When it comes to cutting the golf ball, a common issue is that players just don’t have the right grip on the golf ball.
Think about it: When you don’t grip the club properly, you won’t straighten the face as it comes through impact, which means it stays open to cause the cut. It’s frustrating, but it’s actually an easily fixable problem.
So how can you learn the proper golf grip to hit straighter shots? GOLF Top 100 Teachers Cameron McCormick offers a simple hack – and it only requires two golf swings. Check out his tips below.
How 2 golf tips can ensure proper grip
When you’re trying to fix your golf swing, you don’t need to overthink things. Instead of using a bunch of different training aids or watching several confusing instructional videos, McCormick says using two tees gives you instant feedback to help problem solve.
“Your grip may be why you miss to the right,” McCormick says in the video above.
He then dives into how two pins will prove your hand position.
“Take two tees, put them between your thumb and forefinger, and then put your hands on the stick,” he said. “If your tips are pointed parallel to the club’s leading edge, or even further toward the target on the club’s leading edge, that will correlate a lot with missing it on the right.”
Instead of having your toes pointed toward the leading edge, McCormick says they should aim a little further forward — which helps close the clubface.
“Rather, we want tees to aim somewhat to the side of the fairway or to the right of the clubface,” McCormick said. “So point those spikes to the right of the club face and that will settle your lot for good.”
This is a great hack to use during your time next driving distance sessionjust to make sure everything is lined up properly and ensure firm contact. So give it a try and start seeing straighter shots almost immediately.
