USATF CEO Max Siegel wants the championships to be held in Los Angeles four years from now.
When Los Angeles last hosted the Olympics in 1984, national tryouts were held at the Coliseum just weeks before the games.
Now, ahead of the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, the USATF wants the venue to host the trials once again.
USATF CEO Max Siegel told The Associated Press that he wants to give American athletes the closest simulation of the Olympics, and the best way to do that is to hold the trials at the Coliseum.
“It’s no secret that our desire is to have something on the West Coast and preferably in Los Angeles,” Siegel said. “We’re going to do everything we can to try to hold our tests at the Coliseum.”

Hayward Field has hosted the Olympic Trials since 2008, with the venue also hosting the last four USATF Championships.
Although championships are likely stay in Eugene for the foreseeable futureThe 2028 Olympic trials could dampen that trend.
Siegel also wants trials shortened from the current 10-day format and wants to have the matter resolved by January.
The main concern was whether the Coliseum, which also hosts USC sports, would be ready to host the trials just weeks before the Olympics.
Casey Wasserman, who spearheaded the LA 2028 bid and is chairman of its organizing committee, told the AP.
