Rory Mcilroy defeated Justin Rose in a Play off To win the 2025 mastersClaiming his first ancestors since 2014 and, most importantly, his first green career jacket, making him the sixth player to secure the Grand Slam career. How would you start to unpack that crazy finish?
Rory Mcilroy continues to win Epic Masters, Complete Grand Slam Career
Jessica Marxbury, high editor (@Jess_Marksbury) :: I feel absolutely destroyed, and all I did was look! I can’t remember a master, or a tour, about that issue, with so many curves and curves, landing and emotional investment. It was a nail-bier from the first hole. Jack Nicklaus said – and I’m paraphrazing – that he has never seen so many good shots mixed with so many bad shots. He nailed it! It was wild, exciting, teasing, like nothing I have ever seen. What Rory achieved was so wonderful. I think everyone who looks at and loved it for it. And his final moment of catharsis at 18 – down on his knees, getting into the green – brought tears into my eyes as well. Was inspiring and wonderful, literally everything you look for in a sports story, or any human History, was on the show today. I’m still in a state of healing.
Josh Sens, elderly writer (@Jossens)): So far the craziest tour I have ever seen. It was hard to say if the golf gods were in a particularly mischievous mood or if Mcilroy was just being confused with us. I think it’s right to say out of wild shakes in his game – and his strong emotion after – to play with the weight of history – and with so many painful memories in diplomas – it’s not easy. Fans have good reasons to feel ready for Rory. And also a little bad for Justin Rose.
Jack Harsh, editor of associate equipment (@Jr_bresany) :: How can I unpack it? I had just removed my heart from my chest just to sew it again several times over the past few hours. I don’t think I have ever felt so strongly for a sports event since Tiger in 2019 and there was not as close to many drama as today. First Mcilroy was blowing it, then he gathered, then prevailed. Then he was playing safe, then he exploded it. Then he gathered again. Then he exploded it and then he finally won it. I’m tired just by crushing it. I think the important thing is that. Had Mcilroy lost today, there was a real argument that he would have made that he could never have been able to heal from him. Now? He may be determined to win the other 10 degrees before he has done (and maybe three others this year)!
Mcilroy was pulled out of a double noise in the 1st holeSaved some tree trouble with some magnificent approaches to the first nine and overcomes a dual late vase and a short lost blow to 18 to eventually defeat Rose in a play off. What made you impress more about his victory?
Rory Mcilroy opening double opening at Nightmare Start to Master
Marxbury: Mcilroy showed a serious war, but he did not seem to rise too much or too down during the round. He remained fresh and gathered, and this enabled him to continue to hit those wonderful shots. Although he lost some of the possible ones, he still hit the shooting he needed to give himself opportunities.
Sense: There were so many moments where he could have just fallen shoulders and slipped. What must have been shaking through his head after all seemed to be leaving him again. The fact that he was able to attract what looked like a spiral of self-escorted death is quite extraordinary.
Hirah: My colleagues touched the thought, but the physique is just as impressive. When we talk about 15 yesterday, as well as 5, 7 and 15 today, he hit the shots that I strongly believe that he is the only man on the planet capable of hitting. Tiger once did the same. No one was thinking of passing through some of the windows he tried at 5 and 7, his caddy even tried to speak it outside, but he has so much speed and is able to elevate the ball so high, is really extraordinary. We have compared Scottie Scheffler’s winning ability for Tiger Woods, but we have not talked about (at least recently) how much Rory is the closest physically thing we have seen from Tiger to his prime minister.
What do you think was the difference between this Rory and the version that there were so many great narrow calls over the past two years?
Designing Rory Mcilroy’s chances for victory in a wild master Sunday
Marxbury: In his near past, Mcilroy’s body language was always very indicative of his mood-the absence of swelling in his walking, painful expressions, crashing eyes. I didn’t notice that Sunday, though he had many reasons to be negative! But he stayed in the course, which enabled him to eventually benefit his last opportunity. He looks like a changed player in that sense, which is an impressive evolution.
Sense: I agree with you there, Jess. After he lost the blow to 18 in the regulation, he mumbled in a way that looked painful, but also a borderline entertained by everyone’s absurdity. He would say it all week – that it was not a matter of life and death, so that even the most brutal heart pain could be overcome, and that he still believed in himself. Comporting it throughout the week suggested that they were not just empty words.
Hirah: To be honest, he was finally lucky. He still hit the bone wedge in 13 and lost the blows to 15, 16 and 18 in the regulation, but this time there was no Cam Smith to boil it or Bryson Dechambeau to overcome it. This is not a tap on Mcilroy because winning big championships is simply difficult and you need luck to get there. But when he hit his second at 11 and she just stopped inch inch in front of the water, I was convinced that it was only his day.
Which non -winner is still leaving Augusta National Satisfied with their week, and which pro it still asking?
Justin Rose’s message to Rory Mcilroy after Epic 2025 Masters spoke volumes for both players
Marxbury: Patrick Reed should be excited with his performance this week-an external conclusion of the 3rd place, only two shots from the superiority? This is wild! It has a great record in Augusta in general, but since the major ones are the only option we need to appreciate LIV players against their peers at PGA Tour, this should feel like a great statement about it.
As for a pro -search, my heart hurts a little for Justin Rose. Man, what a show, and so brutal to go out again. And at the age of 44, he knows he is in the sub-mother of his already worthy career of the Hall of Fame. But I’m sure this strikes.
Sense: Max Homa should feel quite well. It’s been a rough season for her so far. Five lost cuts straight to Augusta. Nice to have it again.
Hirah: Yes, I’m dancing on the Bandwagon Justin Rose. He has now finished the race in the last two degrees and he had to go through the qualification to enter the Open Championship! He clearly has something left in the reservoir. It would be great to see him win again, especially after showing such a class in loss.
Gotta wonder where Nick Dunlap is now. His rally on Friday was inspiring, but 90 is a shocking result for a boy who won twice last year. Hard to remember that he is still only 21 years old.
What did you learn in masters week?
Rory Mcilroy sends message to the girl’s heart after winning masters
Marxbury: I had an idea that double double in Augusta was equal to death, and the winners had to shoot under Sunday. And Rory proved all the wrong ones!
Sense: Excellent way to say, Jess. I can’t lead it. What I learned was not so much lesson, but a memory. In golf – and in this golf tour in particular – give up the unexpected.
Hirah: He Rory Mcilroy can hit a very, very high golf ball.
Come 2026 Masters Week, no longer has history that focuses on Rory and his search for Grand Slam career. So what will be the biggest scene of the story?
Grand Slam Primer: What is in discussion about Rory Mcilroy in Masters Sunday
Sense: Can his fifth right Major win?
Marxbury: Yes, josh! Another: Will Tiger will play, and whether he will make the cut, he is always a favorite. In addition, I think it will be fun to trace this growing contingent of players who are playing awesome in Augusta year after year. Scottie was three strokes away from winning a third green jacket. Ludwig was again in the mix, and you have to think that Rory will continue to be a factory for the years ahead. Who will be the masters of the king of the next generation?
Hirah: Yes, I also agree with the sense, and there is more to unfold with this. Mcilroy is settling for a year similar to Scheffler, but maybe with more degrees?! He has won four times in Quail Hollow, the PGA Championship site. US Open is in Oakmont, which should be fitted for a bomber like him. And Pièce de Résistance? The open championship returns to Royal Portrush in his native country, where he owns the record record. He clearly has his images leave little doubt that he is Europe’s greatest player.
