The fourth night of TGL was a first night.
Not only the confrontation between Rory McIllroy’s Boston Common Golf and Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club gave us our first decision of Tio in the simulator league (not a joke) but also gave us our first glance one of the league of technicians High high rules.
Kevin Kisner hit his intention shot in the fifth hole at the top of a ridge in the green back. At the simulator, the ball stopped on the slope, much for Kisner’s Shagri. But when Jupiter links went to place the ball in that green part, they could not get it strangely to stop.
“We left nine meters there,” Kisner said as he tried to take the ball to stop on the slope.
This allowed Jupiter to put the ball in another place in the green it was, according to the rules expert Mark Russell, in a “position not close to the hole”.
“When the player could not take his ball to rest, he had to go to a position not near the hole where he would come to rest. So they did.
Boston and Jupiter ended up connecting the hole, but the ruling shows an early issue with TGL – technology has not always been obvious. Given where Kisner’s ball landed at the simulator, he should have been rolling down the slope. This is something the league should be able to clean while going.
In general, Monday evening was a better night for TGL as the two league needles movers added some juice and fun to a product that had its ups and downs during the first three weeks.
