Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero looks powerful training in the gym on May 2 for his 12-round main event Welterweight against Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 COs) Live on dazn PPV on May 2 on Times Square in New York. In a video clip today, Romero (16-2, 13 CO’s) works on his left hook and fast fire combinations.
Must-win mentality
Rolly knows it’s a must-win battle for him. His career sank to the point where he is now used as an opponent for Kingry to look impressive. He was selected for this command based on his name recognition.
Rolly’s last four battles
– Manuel Jimes
– Isaac Cruz – Who 8 Loss
– Ismael Barroso
– Revont Davis – who 6 losses
The power is definitely there for the former WBA Light Welterweight Champion Romero, 29, but what may be missing is his punching resistance. He was since his sixth round loss of Gervonta Davis on May 28, 2022. Romero was knocked out on March 30 in the eighth round by Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz.
If Romero could win this battle, he would probably get a re-broadcast with Garcia, and the money from that battle would be better than he got in his short time if the WBA 140-pound belt holder after his controversial ninth round victory over Ismael Barroso.
Telegraph problem
The way Romero screams his bumps by screaming like a cat is a bad shape. He lets his opponents know when he intends to throw, and counteract them. Surprisingly, no one Van Rolly’s trainers told him to stop doing this, because he has been a pro for nine years. Someone should have fixed that habit.
Although Rolly’s shape is terrible, he has the power to defeat the top guys on the 2nd card on May 2: Ryan, Devin Haney and Theofimo Lopez. When he grabbed Garcia years ago, he got better by forcing him back against the ropes. Ryan could produce no power on his left brackets with his back against the ropes, while Romero worked with combination pen.
