Important contribution of Saim Ayub
Ghulam and Saim Ayubbuild a solid partnership, Ayub giving Pakistan a solid start with 7 boundaries off 77 off 160 deliveries.
Pakistan stumbled early when they lost for the first time Abdullah Shafiq cheap but Ayub’s innings ensured stability at the top. Showing great character, Ghulam forged a crucial partnership with Saim Ayub and steered Pakistan through a difficult period after an early wicket.
After Ayyub was dismissed, Kamran continued his tenacious approach, hitting his century and keeping England’s bowlers out. Completed with his endurance Mohammad RizvanUnbeaten on 37 off 89 balls with 4 fours, he added solidity to Pakistan’s middle-order efforts. Rizwan played cautiously and ensured that Pakistan did not lose momentum after Ghulam’s dismissal.
England bowlers are struggling to break the partnership
England’s bowling attack was disciplined, although they struggled to disrupt Pakistan’s partnerships for most of the day. Jack Leach Bowled most of the overs, bowling 28 overs for 92 runs and taking 2 wickets. His tenacity was rewarded as he removed Shafiq and the Pakistan captain Shan Massoud Meanwhile, Brydon Carse was quite economical, delivering 5 maidens in his 11 over spell, conceding only 14 runs and taking 1 wicket.
While Pakistan will be happy with the day’s play, England’s bowlers will look to make an early lead on Day 2 to prevent the hosts from posting a big first innings total. The pitch showed some signs of wear and tear and the spinners could play a significant role as the game progressed.
