Turki Alalshikh praised Devin Haney on social media following the announcement of his fight against WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. In November in Riyadh. Alalshikh said what he likes Haney is that he will “Fight someone.”
Evaluation of Haney’s claim ‘Fight someone’
Many fans will not agree with Turki at this point. What Haney has shown us throughout his career is that he is selective in the opponents he faces. The only talented fighter Devin who fought at 135 was Vasily Lomachenko, and his victory against him was considered very controversial by fans.
If Haney was willing to ‘fight someone’, why did he choose to face in May? With 31 fights as a pro, Haney had to fight in Gary Antuanne Russell and Alberto Puello.

Haney’s fight against Brian Norman jr. At 147, one of the rare people where he is facing someone he is not the favorite and does not have a great advantage. This battle is expected to be a mismatch with Haney blown out of the water by Norman, who is talented on another level.
What will be interesting to see is whether Haney meets Turki’s praise that he is willing to “fight someone”. I see Devin returning to how he matched earlier.
Will Haney fight the best welter weights?
If he is really willing to fight with someone, I would expect him to fight against these three: 1. Shakhram Giyasov, 2. Karen Chukhadzhian and 3. Raul Curiel. These are the best fighters in the section under Norman Jr. I do not judge Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, Ryan Garcia, Mario Barrios or Manny Pacquiao as one of the best at 147.
What we are likely to see is that after his struggle with Norman jr. Make on business level choices. This means that he will offend a re -broadcast with Ryan Garcia, as well as fights against Barrios, Pacquiao and Theofimo Lopez. He will stay far from Curiel, Giyasov and Chukhadzhian.
When Haney (32-0, 15 COs) moved up to 140, he fought the faded regis Prograis for his WBC belt rather than Subriel Matias or Theofimo Lopez. Why not them? Devin now leaves the 140 -pound section without fighting these talents:
