Bologna staged a dramatic second-half comeback to secure a vital 2-1 win against Torino at the Estadio Olimpico Grande Torino, with Santiago Castro scoring the decisive goal.
Bologna secured a crucial 2-1 win away to Torino on Sunday afternoon. Santiago Castro’s late goal sealed all three points for the Rossoblu after a thrilling second half.
Both teams went into the Serie A match desperate for consistency, hovering in mid-table. 13th-placed Torino tried to reverse a patchy run of form. 11th-placed Bologna were looking to build on a recent win after a difficult spell.
In the first half, Bologna asserted control, showing their attacking intent early on. They recorded more shots and generated a higher Expected Goals (xG) figure. However, Torino’s defence, organized by goalkeeper Alberto Paleari, remained firm. Paleari was especially busy, making five key saves to keep the score tied. G. Maripan del Torino received a yellow card in the 20th minute for a tackle. The part was tight and tactical, ending goalless.
At the break, both coaches would have asked for more offensive thrust. Bologna needed to convert their chances into goals. Torino aimed for more possession and sharper counter-attacks.
The game came to life immediately after the restart. Just four minutes into the second half, Bologna broke the deadlock. Midfielder Nikola Moro found the net in the 49th minute, giving the visitors a deserved lead.
Torino quickly responded. In the 62nd minute, Nikola Vlasic equalized for the home team with a fine goal. The tie energized the Granata faithful.
However, Bologna was not to be denied. Santiago Castro restored Bologna’s lead in the 70th minute. His clinical finish, assisted by Federico Bernardeschi, was the winner.
Torino pushed hard for another draw in the closing stages. They made several substitutions in attack. Bologna’s defense, however, remained resolute under pressure. In the 81st minute, Bologna’s S. Sohm and Torino’s Nikola Vlasic in the 87th minute were shown yellow cards as the tension grew.
The statistics underlined Bologna’s dominance. They finished with 13 total shots, 6 on target, compared to Torino’s 7 total shots and 2 on target. Bologna’s expected goals (xG) of 1.31 were significantly better than Torino’s 0.49. Despite the scoreline, Bologna’s 53% possession and superior offensive performance reflect their overall performance. Paleari del Torino was their outstanding player with 5 saves.
This vital win lifts Bologna further up the Serie A table, providing a much-needed boost in their quest for European football promotion. For Torino, the defeat extends their inconsistent trajectory and leaves them with much to think about.
