Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly expected to be fit in time for his side’s high-profile games against Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Alexander-Arnold had to be substituted in the 25th minute Liverpool win by 2-0 over Aston Villa with one hamstring problem. The England international had been playing in pain for the past month after injuring his team while representing his country against Finland.
Ultimately, the combination of ailments forced out Alexander-Arnold withdraw from Lee Carsley’s team for this month’s Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland. Seven more players joined the Liverpool defense on the long list of absentees.
Despite being seated EnglandAlexander-Arnold is expected to be available shortly after club football returns in two weeks’ time,
ESPN report that the deep-lying playmaker is expected to be fit for Liverpool’s Champions League tie against Real Madrid on Wednesday 27 November and Manchester City’s visit to Anfield on Sunday 1 December.
Arne Slot’s side travel to the bottom Southampton the first Sunday after the international break (November 24). Alexander-Arnold might even be fit enough for this game but may not be a risk, especially as Slot has the strong alternative of Conor Bradley available.
The European tie against Real Madrid could be particularly poignant for Alexander-Arnold. Rumors of a possible move in the Spanish capital have been plentiful all season, as the right-back is out of contract next summer. Real Madrid already has one defensive crisis in the center which they may have to tackle in January, leaving any move for the summer.
Alexander-Arnold missed 22 games through injury last season, spending the best part of three months with knee ligament damage following a three-week hamstring problem at the start of the campaign.
