It is being reported that a combination of factors could see Real Madrid step up their pursuit of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold this January.

The England international is he is nearing the end of his Liverpool contractmeaning he could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season if he doesn’t agree a new deal.

according to ABCAlexander-Arnold has so far refused to put pen to paper on a new contract with Liverpool, while Real Madrid are desperate to strengthen as a right-back due to the injury suffered by Dani Carvajal.

“What’s the point!” Liverpool’s explosive burst suddenly makes A LOT of sense…

Alexander-Arnold is one of the best right-backs in world football, so he could be an ideal replacement for Carvajal at the Bernabéu, and it seems that the Spaniard’s serious injury could push Los Blancos into trying to push this deal through.

However, ABC also suggest that, despite this, Liverpool are unlikely to let Alexander-Arnold leave midway through the season, while the player himself is also not expected to push for an exit so as not to damage his relationship with the seats childhood club

What’s next for Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Alexander-Arnold may not be on the move this January, but the fact remains that he has yet to sign a new contract with LFC and that must be a huge concern for everyone associated with the club.

The 26-year-old is a world-class talent and could certainly play for anyone in the world, so he won’t be short of offers if he ends up out of contract.

One consolation for Liverpool is at least Alexander-Arnold appears to be a top target for Real Madrid, meaning he probably won’t end up leaving them to bolster a Premier League rival.

But it’s still a big blow for the Reds as they are now closer to losing such an important player for free, when he would surely have an asking price of perhaps as high as £100m if he was under contract for longer.
