30 years old Australian National Cricket Team Explosive opener Travis Head has been named Australia’s T20I captain after original captain Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the second T20I against England National Cricket Team.
The second T20I of the three-match series between England and Australia got underway at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday, September 13.
Australia took a 1-0 lead into the match as they won the first match by 28 runs at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. Head, currently the No. 1 batsman in the ICC Rankings, won the Man of the Match award after scoring 59 runs off just 23 balls in the first game.
Meanwhile, Travis Head came out for the toss in the second T20I and declared Mitchell Marsh unwell. Therefore, he was entrusted with leadership duties. Notably, he became the 13th player to lead Australia in T20I cricket.
Marsh was replaced by Jake Fraser-McGurk in the playing XI. Besides, Josh Hazlewood was rested while Xavier Bartlett suffered a side injury and was ruled out in the first T20I. The aforementioned players were replaced by Aaron Hardie and Cooper Connolly.
Mitch is a little bad – Travis Head
Travis Head, who captained Australia for the first time, spoke at the toss and said they wanted to play with intent against the Three Lions. Travis Head said:
“Mitch’s a little bad, so that’s the change. We made three changes for us today. We want to play with intent, we’ve got some amazing hitters in the middle, we’ve got some big guys in the middle and they’re raring to go. .”
England, meanwhile, made just one change to their squad, bringing on Brydon Carse for the rested Jofra Archer in the decider. Acting in the toss, Phil Salt said they need to bat well and put up a good partnership.
Notably, Phil Salt is leading the England National Cricket Team in the T20I series as Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the matches due to a right calf injury.
Also, the star batsman and captain is doubtful for the upcoming ODI series against the Aussies and if he misses out again, Harry Brook will lead the England National Cricket Team against the Australian National Cricket Team.
“We’re going to have a bowl, it looks like the first wicket of the bowl, hopefully we’ll do well. We need to build a partnership, we probably lost a lot of wickets in the last game. We have high expectations as professionals, a number of guys are out, Jofra Archer misses out, Brydon Carse back turned,” said Phil Salt.
