Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou’s side were unable to overcome the weakness of the Gunners’ squad and failed to score past the formidable defensive pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel.
But who impressed the most during the derby? here it is Tottenham best and worst players second 90 minute player ratings.
Micky van de Fri – 6/10
Micky van de Ven was a bit awkward at times when getting through the back but was otherwise a huge threat for Spurs. His recovery rate was strongly against it arsenalas well as his ability inside the box.
The defender made sure he was in the right place at the right time to shut down Arsenal’s attack and showed his composure when in possession.
The result did not favor Spurs, but Van de Ven’s performance deserved applause.
Dominic Solanke – 6/10
Dominic Solanke finally got the chance to make another appearance for his new north London side after missing the last two games with an ankle injury, but he was unable to etch his name on the scoresheet.
It was still a promising performance from the former Bournemouth man, who held onto the ball well against Arsenal’s colossal defence. Solanke also came close to getting a chance in front of goal but seemed to be stuck on whether to shoot or pass.
It won’t be long before Solanke gets his first goal for Spurs.
Brennan Johnson – 4/10
Brennan Johnson was part of an attacking lineup that failed to create anything of note as the Spurs couldn’t score anything beyond David Raya.
Johnson epitomized one of the weaker players in Spurs’ attack, without causing the Gunners any real problems. Jurrien Timber handled any of Johnson’s activities with ease and the Spurs winger failed to use any space that was offered to him.
While all of Tottenham’s forwards were underwhelming, Johnson was particularly poor against Arsenal.
Cristian Romero – 5/10
Cristian Romero decided to defend in kamikaze style against Arsenal: fast, loose and a little crazy.
He often pounced on challenges, rushed off the defensive line for no real reason, and ran around the pitch with no real aim. The Spurs defender also allowed Gabriel to head home Arsenal’s winning goal after completely failing to mark his man.
His hot-headed mentality carried over onto the pitch, with Romero’s carelessness symbolizing some of the worst parts of Tottenham’s defence.
