Tottenham Hotspur reach a verbal agreement with Igor Tudor in an interim role

Tottenham Hotspur have reached a verbal agreement to appoint former Juventus manager Igor Tudor as interim manager until the end of the season. The move follows the sacking of Thomas Frank on Wednesday after a disappointing seven-month tenure in north London.

According to The Athletic, the 47-year-old Croatian will join on a short-term contract with no permanent extension option. The club intend to conduct a wider search for a long-term successor during the summer window.

“The club has taken the decision to make a change in the position of men’s head coach and Thomas Frank will leave today,” Tottenham said in a statement on Wednesday. The decision came after a 2-1 home defeat Newcastle United left the team 16th in the Premier League table

Frank, who was appointed in June 2025, left with the club just five points above the relegation zone. Sky Sports reports that Tudor met with club officials on Friday to finalize the terms of his arrival.

“The results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change is necessary at this point in the season,” added the club in its official statement. Frank oversaw just two wins in his last 17 league games in charge.

According to The Guardian, Tudor’s appointment allows the hierarchy to keep the door open to a potential return for Mauricio Pochettino in the summer. Tudor was most recently at Juventus but was sacked in October 2025 after an eight game winless run.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025 and we are determined to give him the time and support needed to build the future together,” the club’s statement continued. Despite the initial support of the board, the recent slump forced an immediate change to stabilize the season.

Sky Sports in Italy reports that Tudor has accepted the role and is expected to take over coaching early next week. He brings experience from previous managerial spells at Marseille, Lazio and Galatasaray.

Tottenham are currently without a game this weekend after an early exit from the FA Cup in January. This break gives Tudor a full week to prepare the squad for his first game in charge.

Spurs return to action on Sunday, February 22 for a high-stakes derby in north London against league leaders Arsenal. Tudor will be tasked with navigating a tough fixture to ensure the club’s Premier League survival.
