Joseph Parker today warned IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois that he is making a mistake by looking ahead to their February 22 fight for bigger fights.
Awkward exchange
Dubois and Parker seemed uncomfortable talking trash today because it’s not their style or their quick wit. You could see the wheels turning as they tried to think of things to say in response to comments. It was painful to watch.
These two could have a use hidden ear piece to deliver their lines at times like thisas American politicians do during debates.
Challenger Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) and Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) met today for the press conference for their fight next month at the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2 map in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Parker was referring to Dubois, 27, looking ahead by jumping into the ring after the Dec. 21 rematch between unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury to lambast Oleksandr.
Don’t underestimate
Joseph Parker: “You might be looking too far ahead for other big fights. You have a big fight ahead of you now,” Joseph Parker told IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois during today’s press conference.
Daniel Dubois: “I set my mind firmly on you.”
Parker: “It better be.”
Dubois: “I will be too much for him. Too much, too strong and too fast. Everything he does, I’m going to do better. I am confident. I don’t have to say too much and talk too much. Let the fans tune in. It’s going to be a great fight.”
Parker: “I’ve been boxing for a while now, but I feel like I’ve got everything right now. You are in for a treat.”
Dubois: “I’ll teach you a few things in there. Since you first started, I will teach you some lessons with some new skills.”
Parker: “I’m looking forward to it. Bring it on.”
Dubois: “He’s always been like that, a nice guy. But as soon as the bell rings, we’re going to try to take each other’s heads off.”
Parker: “I like that he’s full of confidence. He’s sky high right now, but it’s all going to stop on February 22nd. Let’s go.”
Dubois: “No,” Daniel said when asked if he had a final message for Parker.
