Tonight, Richardson Hitchins will attempt to dethrone IBF light welterweight champion Liam Paro in their 12-round main event in neutral territory at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Battle updates and results will be shown below.
– Agustin Ezequiel Quintana (21-2-1, 13 KOs) caused a major upset by beating one of Matchroom Boxing’s top prospects, lightweight Marc Castro (13-1, 8 KOs), a 10-round split decision in the first battle of the main battle to win card. Former amateur star Castro, 25, took the early rounds with his volume punch.
The scores:
– 97-93: Quintana
– 96-94: Castro
– 96-94: Quintana
Quintana came up in the second half and used pressure and hard punches to hurt Castro with big punches in the eighth round. He also dominated the ninth, with hard punches repeatedly snapping Castro’s head back. In the tenth, Castro bullied Quintana on the ropes and used his upper body strength to hold him down for most of the round.
The ring sponsorship emblem was a sliding hazard throughout the contest, causing both fighters to repeatedly slip on it, forcing them to fight near the ropes. That could play into main event fighter Liam Paro’s hands tonight in his bout against slick boxer Richardson Hitchins.
Tonight’s main card on DAZN at 7pm ET
Liam Paro vs Richardson Hitchins
Henry Lebron vs. Christopher Diaz
Yankiel Rivera vs. Angel Gonzalez
Marc Castro vs. Agustin Ezequiel Quintana
Hitchins: a star in the making?
Richardson has the charisma and amateur pedigree to be a star in the light welterweight division. We don’t know if he’s tough enough. Tonight, Hitchins will show if he has the grit to handle a fighter, Paro, who throws the rule book out the window when he fights.
The undercard is prospect-heavy rather than featuring guys on the cusp of a world title, but it’s understandable why Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn chose to make these fights. The event is in San Juan, Puerto Rico, so he chose fights that would appeal to the public rather than ones that fans outside of the island would be interested in watching.
It’s Hitchins’ coming out party, and he’s looking to turn himself into a star with an impressive win over Paro (25-0, 15 KOs). The event will be shown live on DAZN at 7:00 PM ET. Many fans consider Paro too gritty for Hitchins, who looked uncomfortable in his last fight when pressured by Gustavo Lemos.
The preliminary card begins at 3:30 PM ET below
