The highlight for Ludvig Aberg and Billy Horschel is now available through Vokey’s WedgeWorks program.

It’s easy to look at the lob wedges on Tour and assume that everyone is playing something with low bounce characteristics. Lowering the leading edge makes it easier to clear the ball from hard pitch conditions, something pros can command with surgical precision. Throw the average golfer into the same situation and they’ll likely bury the leading edge into the green, leading to the dreaded par.

Wedge me more puffs are less prone to digging, but that doesn’t make it an evaluation tool for hackers. Many pros embrace the benefits of extra bounce in certain situations, including Billy Horschel.

The 37-year-old pro has been playing Vokey’s V Grind (bent 60 degrees to 62 degrees) for years and prefers the increased bounce the wedge provides on square-faced shots.

“I love this scratch,” Horschel said. “When I hit full shots, there’s enough bounce that it doesn’t slide under the ball. Jump saves me and the ball, you want to hit it in a certain place. It’s hitting high in the second, third or fourth groove when you’re hitting all the shots.”

The tour-only V Grind will soon be available through Vokey’s WedgeWorks program that combines the current SM10 technology with strife created through feedback from golf’s elite.

While the wedge provides a high measured forward bounce in the sole – to prevent digging – the opening of the face moves the front end significantly lower. This is accomplished through the heel, toe and toe relief of the trailing edge, allowing the wedge to drive under the ball. Consider the V Grind a Swiss Army Knife for players who need their wedge to do it all.

V Grind is available in 58 and 60 degree lofts with a raw finish. Both models have 10 steps of jump.

According to Vokey Tour representative Aaron Dill, the wedge is a perfect option for players with a steeper attack angle who play in normal to soft conditions.

“V Grind players are often a little more slanted in their deliveries,” Dill said. “They’ve got a bit more shaft league which means they’re getting away and away. The V Grind also suits them in softer conditions, or if they are playing on grainy pitches. That’s where leaping forward comes into play.”

Vokey’s WedgeWorks 2024 V Grind It retails for $225 and is available in two lofts (58 and 60 degrees) with a raw finish. Through the program, golfers can choose from eight finger engravings, embossing options, custom color fills, loft and grind marks and more.
