Is it really younger really better?
Why would you consider buying a $ 649.99 driver if there are no real performance benefits?
These are questions that intrigue us all here in MygolfSpy. And they should be your first thoughts when you are thinking of a new driver, regardless of brand or model.
Our big rule is simple: it takes three to five years to see the real performance benefits from a driver. How does this apply to the title young GT3 driver?
This is our mission today: an explosion from the past as we analyze the performance differences between the GT3 title and the driver that paved the way for its creation, TS3 title.
History
In 2018, the title introduced the title TS3 which made an immediate impression during the US Open. The buzz was amplified by Justin Thomas by inserting a 422-Oborr car during the first round. This was the beginning of the “Speed title”, a paradigm change in the metalwood space for the title.
The engine behind such a performance was the chart of the title speed. It was an innovative approach to its time, especially from the title.
She presented four main components by title.
- Ultra -thin titanium – At that time, the thinnest titanium crown thrown into the game (20 percent thinner than 917 drivers) that allows the weight to move lower and deeper.
- Thinner – a refined radial VFF (variable face thickness) that reduces weight by up to six grams – gives faster ball speed and increased forgiveness. The TS face is as thin as the outcome lines must be dyed (rather than in the face as previous generations).
- New form – Extended aerodynamic formation reduces crawling, allowing players to swing faster, increasing the club speed for more distance.
- Optimized Weight Distribution – Refined crown and variable face thickness create lower CGs ever in a title for higher release and lower rotation. The resulting Moi is up to 12 percent higher than 917, creating a powerful combination of speed and stability.

- The crown of thermoform without problems -A Ultra lightweight design, born of a new polymer of the owner matrix. The updated Titanium speed ring technology stabilizes the perimeter to produce maximum allowable center speeds in the center, while a variable facial thickness (VFT) retains the rapid ball speed on the rest of the face.
- Advanced aerodynamics – GT3 contains a new raised tail contour representing a dramatic displacement at the driver’s aerodynamics. Previously impossible to execute due to design restrictions, this advanced shape results in a driver shaking faster while providing optimal CG control.
Then against now: the test
With nearly seven years of technology that shares TS and GT Metalwoods, we wanted to do them against each other head-to-head. Since drivers are not “apples in apples”, we coordinated with the title to normalize test samples. Effectively, we chose these head options:
- Title TS3 – 9.5 °
- Title GT3 – 9.0 °
Despite the attic changes stamped on the head, the effective attic is practically the same according to the title.
To further normalize the test samples, we decided to use chemical mitsubishi tensey blue blue driver in regular and solid flexible with the same syllables and game lengths. Again, we were normalizing as many variables as possible to ensure that the driver’s head performance is what we analyze.
Test parameters
For most of our lab scenarios, we use a smaller testing pool against that of our most sought after tests. In this example, there were 10 testers with an average oscillation speed of 102 mph. The fastest was +/- 113 and about 93 was slower.
Test test hit 15 drivers and rotated between each driver after five shootings. This is a similar procedure we take during the most demanding testing.
Is it the younger better?
With 300 shots and 7,200 data points, defining that metrics to analyze can seem difficult. However, the ball speed, the carried distance, the total distance and the distribution stay when evaluating the performance.
Speed
The ball speed is a critical ingredient in the performance discussion. Also also a central point in technology advances to most manufacturers, including the title.
How quickly can a driver face be without exceeding UGSA’s rules and tolerances? The fastest is a win even if it’s a minute number. We found the GT3 title has a faster ball speed 1.1 MPH on average.
- Average speed of ball GT3 – 147.5 mph
- Average TS3 – 146.4 MPH ball speed
Only a single additional mile per hour at the ball speed is equal to two yards of the carrier distance. This is a win over the standards of Golf Club manufacturers.
What is even more impressive is that 90 percent of the testers on average were a higher ball speed with the GT3 title driver. For these nine testers, their average profit was 1.7 mph at the ball speed.
A tester had an average ball speed 6.1 MPH faster with the title GT3. An abnormality but extremely impressive, while talking about the GT formation potential over an older driver model.
Needless to say, the GT3 title gives when it comes to the ball speed over the TS3 title. The newest is ultimately better in this state. Another Perk: GT3 TITE is One of the best managers for the top players of the swing speed.
Keep and the total distance
Since the GT3 Titoist holds the advantage at the ball speed, there is a complex effect to carry and total distance. Here are the results of the transmission and total head -to -head distance.

You can see the GT3 title keeps the advantage with a 3.1-yard advantage for the carriage distance and a 1.9-tall advantage for total distance. Another win for the GT3 title over TS3. However, you will notice that the TS3 title closes the gap at total distance.

Distribution area
TS3 title holds the advantage in the direction of the distribution area and, surely, accuracy.
- Title TS3 Distribution Zone – 1,406.7
- Title distribution area GT3 – 1,666.5
Test test hit any driver model on A1. A1 is the neutral setting of the Hosel’s Suref Hosel title: Loft Standard and lies.
With this normalized approach, TS3 interior design features are a reasonable response to why it produces better distribution. Moreover, TS3 produces a higher average average: 148 rpm higher average.
In this case, the newest is better
Objectively, there is measurable and valuable profits With the Titeist GT3 driver on the original driver “Tited Title” TS3. We are not talking about the benefits that destroy the land, but they are large enough to get excited, especially from a R&D perspective.
The advances in the ball speed, the transfer and the total distance will exceed the difference in accuracy between the GT3 and TS3. Not only do we see it in this small sample size, but we see it in the most sought after tests.
Year to year, manufacturers are developing drivers that perform more constantly across the face. Most will manage and treat different strike models with relative ease. There are still some who do not produce sustainable shot results, especially in high -rating strikes. But, in general, drivers are becoming increasingly efficient. The GT3 title is just a main example. With proper assembly, closing the accuracy gap should not be a matter.
TS3 exceeds the three to five-year-old range, where there are often advantages it should have with newer devices, especially a driver. So if you are still playing a driver who is three to five years old or even older, go through a professional fit and see if there are benefits for something younger.
