Tim Tszyu has confirmed the Errol Spence Jr. fight is being discussed, but his own words make it clear that it’s not close.
“Yes, possible. Possible. The boys are working on it. Obviously, logistically, it’s a big fight to make. It takes a little bit of time to plan and work out a lot of things because there are a lot of parties involved. But yes, possible,” Tszyu told Fight Hub TV about a potential clash against the former unified splitweight champion.
This leaves the fight in a familiar place. It exists as an idea, not a plan. Tim Tszyu is scheduled to face Denis Nurja on April 5, and that fight will decide whether the Spence conversation goes ahead at all. A loss ends it. A win keeps it alive, but even then nothing indicates a quick turnaround for Errol Spence Jr.
Tszyu did not dismiss the match. He said it appealed to him and noted that there were “a lot of questions” about what Spence would look like coming in given the inactivity. This is the part that gives the struggle its value. This is not just a name fight. This is a version of Spence that no one can fully read.
Both fighters are in similar places. Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) is 36 and has been inactive for three years since the Crawford loss. Tszyu has lost three of his last five fights since 2024. Neither of them looked close to their previous form, adding uncertainty to any fight between them.
Even with that, Tszyu (31) remained grounded. He clearly said he didn’t know if the fight was close.
That distance between public talk and real progress has been a pattern around Spence since his loss. Return fights are called, but no one moves forward.
Tszyu did his part by confirming that the discussions are real. The rest of it has yet to be built, and nothing in his comments suggests it is there yet.
