Before Julen Lopetegui was appointed, Tim Steidten wanted Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler in charge of West Ham United, the Sun reported on Sunday.
According to the newspaper, Hurzeler was one of several Steidten candidates to succeed David Moyes. But because of his age, he didn’t tick all the boxes.
Managers such as Sergio Conceicao and Ruben Amorim were also mentioned in the shortlist, but the West Ham hierarchy opted to appoint a more experienced manager.
The Hammers made a major shake-up in their squad following the departure of David Moyes. The new management signed nine players in the summer and Lopetegui is struggling to bring the new team together so far.
Meanwhile, Hurzeler has made a positive start to his Premier League life with Brighton, picking up nine points from his first six games.
