Rory Mcilroy had been dreaming of what he unveiled on Sunday in masters as long as he can remember.
Navigating in a ending round of troubled in Augusta National – which included two double bumps – to beat Justin Rose in the first hole From a sudden death play off it was not likely to be what danced on Mcilroy’s head from the age of 8 to Saturday night.
But the end result, a green jacket paved on his shoulders, is an image he has long photographed, since he looked at his boyfriend idol, Tiger Woods, captured his first masters title in historical fashion.
“Look, it’s a dream come true,” Mcilroy said on Sunday after winning the 2025 masters to complete the Grand Slam career. “I’ve dreamed of that moment for as long as I can remember. I mentioned it at the awards ceremony, but Tiger’s look here in 1997 do what he did, and then winning his first green jacket, I think he inspired so much from my generation to imitate what he did.
“You know, there were points in my career where I didn’t know if I would have this beautiful outfit on my shoulders, but I didn’t make it easy today. I certainly didn’t make it easy. I was nervous. It was one of the hardest days I’ve ever had in the Golf course.”
When Mcilroy’s The four -legged bird drop was crashed In the first Play off hole, he became only the sixth golf in history that won the Grand Slam career. Only Mcilroy and Woods have reached Feat after Jack Nicklaus won the 1966 open championship.
Woods was not in Augusta National this week after he continues to recover from surgery to repair a tent of Achilles, but he wished Mcilroy on his significant achievement in X.

TuesdayBefore the tour began, Mcilroy spoke to be patient, resilient and willing to have His broken heart to achieve his dreams.
“I think it’s a self-preservation mechanism,” Mcilroy said. “Just more than you are trying not to put 100 percent of yourself there because of this. It happens in all the spheres of life. At a certain point in one’s life, one does not want to fall in love because they do not want to get their hearts broken. People, I think, instinctually as human beings, we hold back because I think I am aware.
“But I think after you go through it, after going through those heart strokes, as I call them, or frustration, you go to a place where you remember how you feel and wake up the next day and you are like, yes, life is not as bad as I thought it would be on the big ones, and I have not happened in the last years, Golf in which it has not happened all over the world, and there is not so much in the world.
Mcilroy was prevented many times in the last four days, but refused to be destroyed.
He made two double bumps during Thursday’s punch round, but responded with 66 back 66th Friday and Saturday to get a two-stroke lead on Friday.
Justin Rose’s message to Rory Mcilroy after Epic 2025 Masters spoke volumes for both players
He opened with a double noise on the first Sunday and lost the lead in Bryson Dechambeau in the second hole. He regained the lead in the third and kept it until he made another catastrophic double in par-5 13. McIIROY dusting himself again and made birds at 15 and 17 to recover from one over the rose. He needed par No. 18 to win in the regulation, but he lost his money to the left and was injured by facing Rose in a sudden death play.
Anydo of those moments could have broken mcilroy. They have in the past. But his determination, as Woods pointed out, kept him in the war and eventually gave him a prize he had coveted for his entire life.
“Look, you have to be the eternal optimist in this game,” Mcilroy said. “You know, I’ve said it until I’m blue on your face. I really believe I’m a better player now than I was 10 years ago. It is so hard to stay patient. It is so hard to continue going back every year and trying the best and not being able to do it.
“There were points in the nine rear today, I thought, you know, did I leave this slide again? But you know, again, I replied with some clutch shots when I needed it, and really proud of myself for this. It’s been a week that drains emotionally for many reasons, very just round and last rounds.
He was the last man to stay in Augusta National and now has a place in a pantheon of magnificent golf that includes only six names: Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan, Generazen and Rory Mcilroy.
